His eyesight may be going and he needs some assistance to get around now and then.
But Ed Sheneman, who has been inventing things for more than a half-century, still knows a problem when he sees one, and sometimes, a solution.
So it was only natural that the 84-year-old Wilmington resident wasn't dry of ideas on how to conserve water during the recent drought.
By Thanksgiving he had an idea to save water in older toilets, and, a few weeks later, a working concept.
"I'd say by Christmas I had some handmade models," Sheneman said in his backyard workshop just off Blue Clay Road, which is covered with early prototypes of what became the Float Booster.

BEAUFORT — On the condition the issue will be revisited in six months, once tourist season has subsided, the planning board voted unanimously Monday night in the train depot to send a proposed noise ordinance to the board of commissioners for approval.
With additions that allow police officers to monitor the sound in town with sound meters, call for private parties of 50 and more to hire an off-duty Beaufort police officer and limit outdoor entertainment permits to four per household, per calendar year, the board agreed it was worth giving the new ordinance a test run.
